When is Ramadan 2027?

The Islamic calendar is lunar, so Ramadan moves roughly eleven days earlier each year. Astronomical calculation puts the start of Ramadan 1448 at the evening of Monday 8 February 2027, making Tuesday 9 February the first day of fasting. Eid al-Fitr is expected around Wednesday 10 March 2027. Your local mosque will confirm both based on moon sighting.

Zakat al-Fitr

Zakat al-Fitr is separate from zakat on wealth. It is a small fixed amount paid on behalf of every member of the household, including children, and it must reach the poor before the Eid prayer. UK charities typically set it at around £5 to £7 per person, based on the price of a staple food.

Fidya and Kaffarah

Fidya is paid by those who cannot fast at all due to chronic illness or old age: the cost of feeding one person for each missed day. Kaffarah applies to fasts broken deliberately without a valid reason and is a far heavier expiation, traditionally sixty days of fasting or feeding sixty people for each day.

Laylatul Qadr is better than a thousand months, and nobody knows which night it falls on.
